About the Designer

Helga Nitta Kohen, Allied Member ASID

Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Helga came to San Diego in 1999. In 2002, Helga began pursuing a degree in interior design from the Design Institute of San Diego (DISD) and graduated four years later with a BFA in Interior Design.

Helga loves to challenge herself to create functional yet aesthetically welcoming environments. She is friendly, responsive, and delivers a high quality product. She can work within tight budgets and hectic deadlines to meet or exceed her client’s expectations. She is capable of working with various vendors, facilitating purchases, and arranging installations so that her clients don’t have to.

Her first designer position was with a model home firm where she was exposed to various large-scale project installations and all staging elements for model homes. Helga also worked for a high end furniture store where she designed custom pieces for production, as well as long term employment with an established HOA Design firm.

Her residential projects vary from small home remodels to custom furniture design to complete redesign of new and existing residential spaces. Her commercial experience ranges from restaurants to retail shops to common area spaces such as lobbies, reception areas, hallways, and restrooms. Helga’s other local project includes the remodel and modernization of a local Jewish temple and student center in the San Diego State University area.
